2022 Spring NCPL
Hi everyone!
Please start planning for the upcoming Spring pickleball League to start April 4th 2022.
This date is after the time change so clubs that do not have lights can host week night matches.

First I'd like to say congratulations to our winning teams of the Fall 2021 season.
This was The Crosby Club (Division 3), Santa Luz (Division 2), and Loma Santa Fe (Division 1).

I like to take a moment to discuss some points for the upcoming next season and to address a few issues during this past season.

1. Limitation of roster numbers. Rosters this season will be limited at 14 players, with a minimum of 7 needed. Considering only four players are needed to play, this should be enough to have teams compete each week and also encourage new teams to form if you have more players wanting to play. Your club can form more than one team. One problem with forming too many teams from the same Division out of your club however is that the teams run thin and when players cannot play each week those matches will need to be canceled. Too large of a roster won't allow players the opportunity to play much. Attached in this eamil is the roster sheet you can email back to me.

2. Age restrictions. We currently do not incorporate any sort of age verification however the current league rules do state that players need to be 25 years or older. Not that we don't have fun playing pickleball with younger aged players, this particular League however starts at age 25 which is a large span considering a lot of our players are over 60. In the open division (7.0 +) players can be 18 and over.

3. Rating system. This was perhaps the greatest point of contention between the clubs. I will attach a self-eval guide that can be used for estimating a players rating. There are at least three variations of ratings which exist. Club ratings, league ratings, and tournament ratings. For instance a player who identifies as a 3.5 club player may be successful if that is a competitive range with other players at their club. However in a tournament, the same player may only be successful in the 3.0 range or even below. The league ratings will fall somewhere in between the club and tournament ratings. I will be looking at League records this season to move some players up or down to tighten up their ratings. This was most apparent in the 5.5 division.

4. Separation of divisions. Players can play in more than one division as long as the team cap is not exceeded. Seeing as the 5.5 League was thought of by some as a beginner League (potentially pairing a 3.0 and 2.5 together), this is clearly not a beginner rating level. I would like to see which clubs would be interested in forming a beginner team league which would be a 5.0 division to play on Fridays. If we have enough clubs available then I would like to offer this season a 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, and Open (Division 7.0+). In the Open division, the age span will be 18+ and up.

5. Deadlines and payments. This season the league fee will be $65 per team. Deadlines for adding players will be 10 days after the starting week of league play. Please do not ask to add players in the middle of season it is unfair to other teams who have prepared their rosters ahead of time and it can change the outcome of match play during season.
Team payments can be sent to
me via venmo@Matt-Seideman, dropped off at the Crosby Sports Center, or
mailed to Attn: Matt Seideman Crosby Club Athletic Director PO BOX 2504
RSF, CA 92067.

6. Food and beverage. No

7. Captain or team administrators. Please make sure that the person you select as Captain is able to commit to the entire season. It is very difficult if the point of contact has to switch back and forth between clubs as the contact list is given out to all captains before season starts. If you need to switch captains the week before a match or if you're out of town, please let the opposing captain know via email or text who your assistant Captain will be that week and include their contact information.

I look forward to another great season for North County pickleball. Thank you!
