Treasure Coast Mixed Pickleball League

LEAGUE WIDE RULES & STANDARDS

If you played last season and your team did not medal, regardless of what your DUPR is, you may play in the same/equivalent division this season.

Important Information

*Division Names have changed

*A player cannot play below the previous seasons played division. This will not be monitored by the commissioners, however if it is brought to our attention or found out during the season any matches played by said player will be adjusted to losses/forfeits. If you believe that you do need to play down a division or an exception made to this rule for a player, please contact the commissioners for approval.

* If your team came in first (gold medaled) last season, no more then 3 of the previous players can be on a team together in the division previously played. For example, if a team finished first in the 3.0 division, the entire team could remain the same and play in the Premiere (3.5) division. However should they want to play this season in the Challenger 3.0 divsion then they cannot have more then 3 players from the previous team. All players can play in the division again as long as no indiviual team contains more then 3 players from the first place team. This will not be monitored by the commissioners, however if it is brought to our attention or found out during the season any matches played by said team will be adjusted to losses/forfeits.

*If a division or pool for some reason has teams playing less weeks then other teams in the same pool or division, then the only weeks that will count toward the rankings will be equal to the lowest amount of weeks played by said team. The weeks will be counted in sequential order earliest to latest and will be used for ratings according to the schedule, not date completed.

Rules for 2025 Winter Season

The Treasure Coast Pickleball League is a competitive league between pickleball facilities and communities on the Treasure Coast. In addition to our league rules, we also use the USA Pickleball Rules to guide us. Here is the link to the USA Pickleball Rules

Dates:

Matches are to begin the week of January 6th, 2025 and will run through first week of March 2025. Playoffs will take place tentatively the week of March 10, 2024.

Pricing:

  • $45 per player

Length:

  • 8 weeks of play followed by the Finals.

Ratings & Divisions:

  • New players that have not played in the league will be self-rated using their Dreamland Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) if available. If a player is not listed in the DUPR directory, their team captain will determine the player’s rating based on the skill level the player has entered when playing in unsanctioned tournaments. If neither of these apply to a player, then the self-rating will be the division skill level.
  • A player may "play up" into a higer division then their rating shows, however playing down into a lower division (sandbagging) is absolutely not allowed.
  • A player may only enter one division. YOU CANNOT PLAY OR SUB FOR ANOTHER DIVISION OR TEAM.
  • If for some reason you believe your rating to be higher then your actual division, please reach out to the League commisioner to have this evaluated and decided on a case-by-case basis.
  • Player’s ratings to determine which division they are eligible to play in will follow the below process. All divisions encompass a range of skill levels. The ranges are as follows:

Challenger Division – DUPR rating up to 3.259

Contender Division – DUPR range 3.6 through 3.759

Premiere Division – DUPR range 3.76 through 4.259

Maverick Division – DUPR range of 4.26 and above

  • Once league play has begun, as scores are entered, each matchups scores will be added to DUPR weekly and DUPR will update accordingly.

Format:

  • A team consists of a minimum of 4 players - 2 men & 2 women minimum. With a maximum of 8 players.
  • Matches will consist of 1 Men’s doubles, 1 Women’s doubles and 2 Mixed doubles.
  • The same team members playing Men’s and Women’s Doubles are allowed to play in the Mixed Doubles matches once both Men’s & Women’s matches are complete.
  • Captains will contact each other 1 week in advance to confirm match details.
  • Captains may re-schedule to another day/time if both teams agree.
  • Rain make-ups are to be arranged by the captains and noted on the league site.

Scoring:

  • Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Doubles are played 2 out of 3 games. Games are scored first to 11 pts winning by 2 pts. If the score reaches 14-14 in any match, the winner of the next point wins. In that scenario the first team with 15 points will win.
  • The order of play is 1 Men’s and 1 Women’s match followed by both Mixed Doubles matches.

Standings:

  • Calculated by total number of Team Wins/Losses, then individual matches won
  • In the event of a tie, standing will be decided by the following in the order listed: team match wins, losses, individual matches lost, games lost, points lost, points won.

Playoffs:

  • At end of the regular season, the top 4 (four) teams for each division will enter into a single elimation playoff bracket. If there are multiple pools in a division, the top two teams from each pool will qualify. With Round One of Playoffs team matchups will 1v4, 2v3 then winners moving forward to the gold and silver match and losing teams playing for bronze.

The First Server and Sides determination:

The first server of the first game is determined by a "coin toss". The winner of the "coin toss" gets to choose between side (starting side) or serve. The team that serves first in game one will be the receiver of the first serve in game two. Sides are also switched for game two. For game three, if needed, the first server will be the first serving team from game one. Sides are also switched back to the way they were at the start of game one. When either team reaches 6 points, the sides are switched during the third game and played out that way until a winner is determined.

Timeouts & Coaching during breaks:

Each team will be entitled to 2 timeouts per game. Timeouts are for 1 minute maximum. Coaching is allowed during timeouts.

Substitute Players:

  • A substitute player must pay a league fee of $25.
  • Players are allowed to sub up to a higher division only. No subbing down is allowed under any circumstances.
  • A substitute player may only play up to 3 (three) weeks in a season and is not eligible to play in the playoffs.

Replacement Players:

  • If a regular roster player is injured and cannot continue to play the balance of the season (and verified by a doctor’s note) you can replace this player. The replacement player will need to play out this roster position for the balance of the season. The injured player will not be able to play in any more matches during a season in which they have been replaced.
  • A replacement player must pay a league fee of $25.
  • Player must be replaced with a player that is eligible to play in the division.

Match Lineups:

  • Lineups need to be completed before being exchanged with the opposing captain. Lineups must be exchanged with the opposing captain prior to start of match play. Both captains should arrive at the match with a lineup printed out from the system.

Balls:

The official ball used is to be determined.

Scheduling:

  • Please note the schedule (to be completed by December 30th, 2024) and notify the league coordinator of any conflicts asap.
  • Bye on the schedule means that you have the week off.
  • Home Team captains are responsible for entering scores following their matches.
  • Matches are allowed to be played on a different day of the week as long as both captains agree. The match must be played by Sunday of the week that the match is scheduled for, and the score entered by end of day Sunday. If not, both teams will have a forfeit for that week’s play. This will adversely affect both teams standing within the league.

Defaults:

  • If a player is injured during a match and it cannot be continued, the team with the injury would default the match.
  • If a makeup game cannot be completed within 1 week of the original match date, both teams will receive a default unless other arrangements are approved by the Commissioner.
  • If any team that cannot field a full lineup to begin a match within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time will be subject to a default based on the discretion of the opposing team’s captain.

Roster Adjustments:

  • On game day if a player becomes ill or injured, although their match may be deafulted. A roster change to any remaining matches may be made to allow the matches to continue.

Rule Adjustments:

  • Throughout the season exceptions may be made or changes to the rules applied at the discretion of the Commissioners. Any changes will be to benefit the majority of players.
